Nach einem Jahr Testen, Ausprobieren, Forschen und Ändern konnte ich nun endlich mein für mich perfektes Mundstück entwickeln und danke der Fa. Tilz für die tolle Unterstützung.

 

Das CE1 Mundstück basiert auf dem beliebten Tilz Modell E.Schmid 115, welches ich seit über 20 Jahren gespielt habe und nun durch einige Änderungen und Erweiterungen für mich persönlich noch besser machen konnte.

 

Die Spezifikationen:

⭕️ Randinnendurchmesser 18,0 mm

🌀 Bohrung 4,4mm

🟩 Rand mittelbreit

🔽 Kessel mitteltief

 

Als Sonderanfertigung können bei Tilz auch andere Randinnendurchmesser oder Bohrungen bestellt werden.

 

Die Änderungen zum E.Schmid115 (siehe Bilder) und deren Wirkung:

 

1️⃣ Der Rand ist etwas breiter und nach außen runder gestaltet

▪️Die größere Auflagefläche auf der Lippe gibt mehr Grip und Stabilität —> für noch mehr Grip gerne die schwarze Diamond-Brass-Variante

▪️keine Risse mehr in der Unterlippe nach hoher Belastung (dieses Problem hörte ich auch von anderen)

▪️ Zusätzlich hat der etwas breitere Rand den Vorteil, dass man bei langem Spiel in der hohen Lage nicht zu sehr nach oben wegrutscht und die Kontrolle an der Unterlippe stets behält

 

2️⃣ 2. Der Kessel ist unten am Einlauf in die Bohrung minimal offener gestaltet als beim Modell E.Schmid115

▪️Dies führt zu besserem Luftfluss und dadurch zu zentrierterem Klang vor allem im Bereich um die Bruchlage, weil man schneller zwischen den Registern wechseln kann. 

▪️Bindungen lassen sich sehr schön gestalten.

 

3️⃣ Die Rückbohrung ist auch offener gestaltet als beim Modell E.Schmid115

▪️Auch dies führt zu einer besseren Übertragung der Luft von Mundstück ins Instrument und hilft ebenso, Bindungen weicher zu führen und zu spielen.

 

4️⃣ Es ist am Außenkorpus 1mm mehr Masse aufgetragen, was das Mundstück ca. 4-5g schwerer macht

▪️Dies hat klanglich einen sehr schönen Effekt und macht den Klang runder, wärmer und etwas dunkler, ohne in der höheren Lage die Brillanz zu verlieren.

 

Generell kann man sagen, dass die Änderungen dazu beigetragen haben, dass ich die leichte Höhe beibehalten und sogar noch stabilisieren konnte, meinen Klang aber wärmer und runder machen konnte, ohne die Brillanz zu verlieren, die Lagenwechsel vom hohen ins tiefe Register einfacher bewältigen kann und vor allem die Bindungen sehr schön weich und luftgefüllt funktionieren.

ENGLISH SPECIFICATIONS

 

After a year of testing, trying, and making changes, I have finally been able to develop my individual and personal perfect mouthpiece, and I would like to thank the company Tilz for their fantastic support. It is now available for order at Tilz or here in the webshop.

 

The CE1 mouthpiece is based on the popular Tilz model E.Schmid 115, which I have been playing for over 20 years, and I have been able to make it even better for myself through some modifications and enhancements.

 

Specifications: 

⭕️ Inner rim  18.0 mm 

🌀 Bore 4.4mm 

🟩 Medium-wide rim 

🔽 Medium-deep cup

 

As a custom order, other inner rim diameters or bores can be ordered from Tilz.

 

The modifications to the E.Schmid115 (see image 4 and 5) and their effects:

 

1️⃣  The rim is slightly wider and rounded outward: 

a) I often struggled with small cracks on the inside of my lower lip, which occurred due to extensive playing and were not conducive to a flexible embouchure and quick recovery. I heard about this problem from others frequently as well. Hence, the slightly wider and outwardly rounded rim, which cuts into the lip less aggressively. 

b) The larger contact area on the lip provides more grip and stability —> for even more grip, the black Diamond-Brass variant is available. 

c) Additionally, the slightly wider rim has the advantage that during long play in the upper register, one does not slip too far upwards and always maintains control at the lower lip.

 

2️⃣The cup is slightly more open at the bottom where it meets the bore compared to the E.Schmid115 model. 

This results in better airflow and, consequently, a more centered sound, especially in the area around the break, as one can switch between registers more quickly. Slurs can be beautifully executed.

 

3️⃣ The backbore is also more open compared to the E.Schmid115 model. 

This also leads to better transfer of air from the mouthpiece to the instrument and helps to execute bindings more smoothly and playfully.

 

4️⃣ There is an additional 1mm of mass applied to the outer body, making the mouthpiece approximately 4-5g heavier compared to the E.Schmid115 model. 

This has a very nice effect on the sound, making it rounder, warmer, and slightly darker, without losing brilliance in the higher register.

 

In general, it can be said that these changes have helped me maintain and even stabilize the lightness in the high register, make my tone warmer and rounder without losing brilliance, make transitions from high to low registers easier, and most importantly, make slurs work beautifully soft and air-filled.
